Top Yoga Poses for Weight Loss



Can you use yoga for weight loss? Yes! Losing weight isn’t easy for anyone, but with the right attitude, you can make a real difference in how you look and feel.
These fat-burning yoga poses will help kick-start your metabolism and build up lean muscle tone.

1. Cobra Pose

  • Even beginners can get good results from this simple yoga pose, which works to firm the buttocks and tone the abs.
  • Lie face-down on the floor, with the tops of your feet flat against the ground.
  • Press your legs and hips down. Place your hands under your shoulders, plams down and fingers spread apart.
  • Press into your hands, lifting your head, chest and upper back off the mat. Keep your gaze forward and up and your shoulder blades down and back.
    Push back your shoulders and feel the stretch spread evenly along the length of your spine.
After a few deep breaths, relax to a prone position on an exhale.

2. Wind-Releasing Pose

This fat-burning yoga pose is great for targeting your abdominal area.
  • Lie down on the floor and bring your knees up to your chest with your ankles together.
  • Clasp your arms together over your knees as you bring your head up off the floor.
  • Breathe deep as you feel the stretch work your abs, then relax slowly.

3. Bow Pose

This advanced yoga pose can really burn fat while toning your arms, legs and abdominal area.
    Lie down on your stomach, bend your knees and reach around to grab your feet.
Pull in your stomach and extend your feet upward, raising your upper body at the same time. Keep your shoulder blades down and back.
Hold for several breaths, then relax.

4. Side-Stretch Pose

This yoga pose can help raise your heart-rate and burn calories.
  • Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip width apart.
  • Rotate your torso and turn both your feet to the right. Keeping legs straight, exhale and hinge over your right leg until your torso is parallel to the floor, reaching your hands to the ground (if you can’t touch the floor, you can rest them on a block).
  • Hinge further with each exhale, moving your torso closer to your right thigh.
  • Remember to keep breathing, then relax and repeat in the opposite direction.

5. Warrior I Pose

This yoga pose can work your abs, thighs and arms, and is most effective if used as part of a sequence like Sun Salutation.
  • Standing straight, step your left leg 4-5 feet to the left, then rotate both feet and your torso toward the left.
  • Bend your left knee over your toes while keeping your right leg straight.
  • Raise both arms high above your head with your fingertips pointing upward, looking up at your hands.

How can you use yoga for weight loss?

With all the chanting and seemingly stationary poses, one might wonder how you can lose weight through yoga. But the truth is it can be an effective weight loss tool, if you practice it regularly and correctly.
The first factor you should consider is that not every type of yoga is conducive to consistent weight loss. Some types are better for reducing stress and helping relaxation but don’t provide the cardiovascular workout needed for weight loss. The second factor is consistency. As with any fitness plan, yoga needs to be done regularly and with intensity. Finally, it is important to remember to maintain a healthy diet in combination with any workout regimen.

Vinyasa: Flow yoga

Bikram: Hot yoga

If you want more of a challenge, try your hand at Bikram yoga. Similar to Vinyasa, it takes you through a series of poses, but, instead of a cool yoga studio, you are in a heated studio that is heated up to 105°F.
As you move through the Bikram poses, you not only burn calories and fat but temporarily lose water weight while eliminating toxins. But note that Bikram yoga for weight loss is extremely vigorous, and should not be undertaken if you are pregnant or have certain medical conditions.

Power yoga

Nowadays, many gyms are offering power yoga, which combines yoga poses with a cardiovascular workout by pushing you through the poses faster and with less rest time in between. If your gym doesn’t offers such a class, the good news is that power yoga is also offered on DVD.

Emu Oil

Vaseline

Although occasionally headstand adventures happen whilst we sleep, “locked neck” or “rigid neck” is usually the result of a bad pillow, or a previous injury.
Here are a few tricks that you can use to loosen that stiff neck and move on with your day as much as possible:

1) First and foremost, it is important to remember the huge role that applying heat has in relaxing muscles.

In between using ice packs to numb the pain and reduce inflammation, use heat to bring fresh healing blood to the area and make your pain dissipate more quickly. (This is a good opportunity to refreeze that bag of peas too – unless this happens a lot in which case you are probably fully stocked with frozen peas, sweet corn and, dare I say, frozen carrots!)

2) If you have been subjected to a cold or damp environment prior to your neck injury, you may want to try sipping cinnamon and turmeric in warm water to release the muscle contraction and bring down inflammation.

3) St Johns Wort, valerian root or vervain tea can be used to reduce pain.

The cooked herbs can then be prepared as a warm compress and used on the muscle (or just wrap the wet herbs in an old pillow case and press on your muscle). In a bind, try using chamomile tea bags.

4) Try applying fresh horse radish or mustard oil to the muscle to relieve stiffness, but only leave on for a few minutes at a time to prevent numbness and burning.

5) Arnica as a homeopathic remedy or a cream can really help heal the area quickly.

Keep some stocked in your first aid kit as it is good for all kinds of aches and pains!

6) Blending up celery and drinking the juice helps repair nerve damage (this is surprisingly great for stress relief and pre menstrual irritability too).

7) And finally, let’s not forget using the shower or bathtub with some essential oils such as rosemary, juniper, lavender, pine or nutmeg!

The problem is that these days, buying the best egg has become complicated, even for the savviest label sleuth. Egg carton claims promise all sorts of nutrients and living conditions for the laying hens, but many claims aren’t even regulated. The best egg for your brain is the kind your great-grandmother probably enjoyed: hens raised on pasture, where they can exercise and eat a diet of grass and bugs, supplemented with organic grains. Look for pastured eggs from local farmers you trust, and rely less on grocery store eggs advertised as “omega-3 enriched” or “free-range,” both claims that aren’t regulated.

How to Take Screenshots

How to Take Screenshots



In this lesson you'll learn how to take a screenshot, and how to crop that image down to size. For example, suppose you were getting an error message on screen and wanted to send it to us to see if we could help. Instead of typing the error message, or trying to explain it, you could take a screenshot, crop to reduce the file size, and then insert the image into your email. Here's how.

First, you need to locate the Prt Scrn button on your keyboard. This stands for Print Screen, and is usually located on the right hand side of a standard keyboard, just above the Insert, Home and Page Up keys. However, if you have a laptop, the Prt Scrn button can be hard to locate. Look in the very top right of your keypad. Not only that, you may have to hold down your laptop's function key first, which is usually found in the bottom left of the keypad.
Press the Print Screen button once on a PC, or use the Function Key > Print Screen combination on a laptop. This will copy whatever you see on your screen to the computer's memory. Once the screen is in the computer's memory it can be pasted into an image editor for manipulation.
The image editor we'll use is Paint. This has been much improved with Windows 7 and can be found by clicking your Start button. From the Start menu click All Programs at the bottom:

When Paint starts up, click the Paste button at the top:

The image you captured on the desktop should now appear in the main viewing area. If it doesn't, it means you haven't captured the image. So try pressing your "Prt Scrn" button again.
You now need isolate just that part of the image you're interested in. After all, there's no sense in sending anyone the whole of the screen when you only want to capture the error message.
To isolate just part of the screen, click the Select button on the Paint toolbar:

Now move your mouse back on to your image. The cursor should have changed shape. Hold down your left mouse button on the top left of whatever it is you're trying to capture. Keep your left mouse button held down and drag to the bottom right. In the image below, we're trying to isolate some code and the error message:

Selecting an area to crop
Unfortunately, Paint is not very good when it comes to resizing a selected area. You might think the white squares are sizing handles. But if you hold your mouse over one and try to drag to a new position it will cut and move the image instead. It's better if you press the Select button again. This will deselect your chosen area, and you can have another go.

If you accidentally move your selected area, click the Undo icon at the very top left of Paint:

Once you have a selection, right-click this area and you'll see a menu appear. Select Crop, and the image will shrink to your selected area:

Paint is also not very good at refining the cropped area, either. If you want better screenshots then you would need a decent image editor like the free Gimp (which is quite hard to use). Photoshop Elements is also a very good image editor, and is well worth paying money for. The best professional image editor is Photoshop, (Elements is a stripped down version of this), but it's quite expensive.

For quick screenshots and basic cropping, however, Paint should be fine.

Once you have cropped your image down to size, you can save it by clicking the dropdown menu at the top:

As you can see, there is a bewildering array of options! If you want to keep the file size down to a minimum, use GIF or PNG. (GIF is the more common of the two.) For better quality images, but large file sizes, use JPEG. If you're sending somebody a screenshot in an email, GIF is the better option.
But you should now know how to take a screenshot, and crop the image in Microsoft Paint.

Horseradish is one of the best herbal remedies for sinus congestion. Simply grate some horseradish and put a pinch of the herb in your mouth. Let it remain in your mouth for a few minutes and then, spit it out. It quickly dissolves the mucus, blocked in the sinus.

3. Grapefruit Seed Extract
This is the best home remedy for clearing chronic sinus congestion. Grapefruit seed extract has excellent anti-fungal properties as well as it acts as a natural antibiotic. It is readily available as a nasal spray in the market.

4. Cayenne Pepper
Include cayenne pepper in your regular diet. This helps to open sinuses, and therefore, one of the best natural remedies for sinus drainage.

5. Neti Pot
Mix a teaspoon of sea salt in 2 cups of lukewarm water, and let it dissolve. Fill a neti pot with this solution. Now, stand over a sink and place the tip of the spout at one nostril. Slightly tilt your head towards sideways and let the water come out from the other nostril. Repeat this process with the other nostril too.

6. Humidify the Air
Use an air humidifier in your room. This will give you relief from the mucus congestion in the sinus.

7. Onion
Chop an onion and put it in the boiling water. Boil it for about 5 minutes. Now, inhale the steam of this water for some time. Onions are a good anti-bacterial, and therefore, is the best home remedy for sinus drainage. You can even drink the mixture when it is warm, for better results.

8. Garlic
Applying crushed garlic along with honey is also very effective in treating a sinus infection as it unclogs the sinus cavities while removing the bacteria. Garlic is an excellent anti-bacterial and helps in quickly healing the infection.

9. Use a Warm Compress
Place a warm compress on your face, covering the nose, cheeks and eyes. This will give relief from the facial pain and pressure caused due to sinus infection. You can also use a warm compress over your ear to relieve sinus pressure in ears or to unclog the clogged ear.

10. Carrot & Cucumber Juice

Other causes of a dry cough include:


  • Asthmatics can battle a dry, nagging cough that comes and goes as it pleases.
  • Certain medications can cause a dry cough, including blood pressure medications called ACE inhibitors.
  • Rooms that present low moisture levels can dry out the mucous membranes and irritate the throat.
  • When acid from your stomach makes contact with your esophagus, your throat often becomes irritated. This condition is called gastroesophageal reflux (also known as GERD) and it can cause a dry cough to develop in the middle of the night.

DRY COUGH HOME REMEDIES

If you’ve battled the symptoms of a dry cough for longer than two weeks, it’s highly suggested that you pay a visit to your doctor to get to the bottom of your condition. In the meantime, treat your cough with the following home remedies:

a) Raw Onion:

Finely chop one onion and extract its juice. Mix one teaspoon of onion juice with one teaspoon of honey. Allow the mixture to sit for four to five hours, as it will create an effective cough syrup that should be taken two times per day. If you are battling a cold, you should know that the onions also work to remove phlegm when combined with lemon and boiling water.

b) Salt Gargle:

Treat a dry cough with a gargle consisting of lukewarm water and a teaspoon of salt.

c) Oregano:

Boil oregano in a cup of water, filter, and drink to lessen the intensity of a dry cough.

d) Green Tea with Honey:

Soothe not only your throat but also a dry cough when you add honey to a cup of green tea.

e) Aniseed Tea:

Dry coughs plagued by thick mucus will respond to a regular cup of aniseed tea – a spice with a flavor much similar to licorice and fennel.

f) Raisins:

Create a healing sauce with raisins to soothe a cough by grinding 100 grams of raisins with water. Blend in about 100 grams of sugar and heat the mixture until a sauce-like consistency is achieved. Preserve the sauce and take 20 grams before going to bed on a daily basis.

g) Humidifier:

Add a humidifier to your bedroom to combat a dry cough that comes at night.

h) Hot Milk:

Before retiring for the night, drink a cup of hot milk with honey, which will not only deliver relief for a dry cough, but also encourage a sound night of rest.

i) Ginger Tea:

Place ginger in a pot of boiling water before adding it to your regular amount of tea leaves. Lastly, put in a pinch of pepper along with three to four basil leaves. Drink hot to soothe the throat.

k) Almonds:

4. Vaseline and lemon juice:

  • Clean and dry your heels. Once all the dirt is out, soak your feet in warm water for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.
  • Take 1tsp Vaseline and the juice of a lemon. Rub this mixture over your heels and other cracked parts of the foot. Rub this in nicely, till it gets absorbed in the skin.
  • Apply this mixture before going to bed and keep on overnight, wearing a pair of woollen socks, as these socks help trap body heat and increase the effectiveness of the mixture.
  • Wash off in the morning.

5. Paraffin Wax:

This is an especially good treatment if you have really cracked and painful heels.
  • Take some paraffin wax and mix it with mustard oil or coconut oil.
  • Heat the mixture in a pan till the wax melts properly. Allow this to cool at room temperature and once it’s cool, apply over your feet. To get the best results, apply before going to bed and cover with a pair of socks.

The team co-owners and marquee players would be introduced at the glittering opening ceremony in Kolkata on Sunday and all the eight franchises have been allotted one-minute slot each to showcase their traditional songs and dance.

Atletico de Kolkata and Mumbai City FC are pitted against each other in the opening match while the remaining six along with their respective teams would form a circle with the main stage in the centre where Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra and Varun Dhawan would perform.

Percussionist Bickram Ghosh would represent Kolkata while Sivamani would lead Chennaiyin FC.

Punjabi dhol would be the theme of Delhi Dynamos who have roped in dhol artist Hanif Aslam Dafrani, who has earlier performed for many Bollywood songs like Kajra Re, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Puneri 'dhol tasha' which is famous during Ganapati immersion would be part of the FC Pune City, while Kerala Blasters have brought in Malayalam music composer Ronnie Raphael.
Bollywood stars Parineeti, Ayushmann to cheer for Delhi Dynamos
New Delhi is set to play host to the inaugural Hero Indian Super League and it’s set to be a star-studded affair.
Players of Delhi Dynamos will be cheered on from the sidelines by Bollywood actors Parineeti Chorpra and Ayushmnan Khurana offering their support from the stands at the JLN Stadium.
Delhi Dynamos are already high on star value with their marquee player -- Alessandro del Piero, the Italian football legend and also the most expensive player in the ISL, in their ranks. The team also has national team stalwarts Francis Fernandes, Steven Dias along with Danish strikers Mads Junker and Morten Skoubo.
This is the first time Delhi is getting its very own football team, and the crowds will get to enjoy the home matches at the beautiful JLN Stadium with live entertainment and music.
